  4. At El Rio, our mandate is to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities who need special education and related services at no cost to families. We admit all children without regard to them having an existing IEP, assessments in progress, or any disability or learning challenge. Does your child have an IEP? Here’s a guide to the IEP meeting process. Have questions about special education at El Rio? Contact our school’s Director of Student Support & Special Education, Sarah Sporck at sarah.sporck@elrioschool.org. Is your child having learning challenges? At El Rio, for incoming/new students without existing IEPs, we use the Student Success Team process to identify any learning issues in a collaborative process with school leadership, classroom teacher(s), and parents, utilize intervention as part of our pre-referral process, and assess for progress before moving to formal assessment in the IEP process. We are an independent charter authorized by LAUSD, and our special education program is part of LAUSD’s SELPA. Please click here for A Parent’s Guide to Special Education, and click here if you’re puzzled by your child’s special needs for more information.
